New Year Resolutions

Happy belated New Year! My holidays were.....busy! So, now it's that time of the year where everyone is trying to change themselves and grow as a person and lose weight. Well, here I am, jumping on that band wagon. And YES, my new years resolutions NEVER come through for me. Let me tell you about what type of person I am. I am a procrastinator, I never finish anything (even the last bite of a sandwich), I am always ready to eat something, and I thoroughly enjoy laying in bed watching Netflix vs. the type of person I wish I could be: athletic, goal oriented, busy, a get-things-done type of person. Yet, here I am typing up this blog post about....my new years resolutions...HA. Normally, I try to make a fresh new start for myself about 3 times a year. You know those moments, after you spend hours on Pinterest and YouTube, where you're like HEY I can and need to be just like these perfect humans I am seeing on the internet. So you start to think of how you can accomplish this and how you're "starting over". So, here is the notorious time of the year where everyone "starts over". My goals this year are to better who I am already.

1. Be healthier - be fit
YES, LOSE WEIGHT. But I'm trying to NOT make that the goal. So, to achieve this I plan to be taking small gradual steps because you cannot do everything all at once.
  • Control portion size
    • 1/2 your plate veggies/fruit, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs
    • use smaller plates
    • do not eat out of bags
    • plan meals
  • Drink Water!
    • simple as that!!
  • Start Working Out
    • I will be making my own personal workouts, easy for at home (I don't have a gym membership)
  • Stay Away from Sweets
    • Coca-Cola and sweet tea are my WEAKNESS! I'm from the south, what can I say. So this will be very hard for me!
  • Document
    • Take pictures, have a food journal, and make monthly updates.
2. Better Your Creative Self
  • Photography
    • Bring your camera everywhere
    • Film adventures
    • Take snap shots
  • Drawing
    • Bring a sketchbook/doodle book every where
    • Sketch at least once a day
3. School
  • Make all A's
  • Keep up with online classes
  • Keep up with your planner
4. Ect.
  • travel more
  • save money
  • spend more time with people who truly matter
  • stay true to yourself
  • channel and get to know in different ways

Skincare Products I Swear By!

With the change of the seasons, my face cannot decide what it wants to do; break out, be oily, be dry! But these products are definitely helping me through this time of need! ;) I also take these pictures myself, so....the products are used and have had a hard life!

So, everyday before I put on my make-up I use this moisturizer (Aveeno Positively Radiant daily moisturizer with SPF 30). I HATE lotions but this one does not leave my face oily or greasy it just the perfect amount of moisture. I really bought this because of the SPF- I am really pale and my job takes me outside for hours. So, I need something to protect my skin from the sun and so far this has worked! I also have taken it to the beach to keep my face from getting dry from the salt water and protected from the sun. It is relatively expensive, to me, about $15 at Target. But this one bottle has lasted a while.
This product is an acne treatment that you can buy at Target for about $18. It is AcneFree Severe. I have only ever used this when my face breaks out REALLY badly. I only used step 1, the face wash, and step 2, the toner. The face wash really strips your face of all dirt and oils and you can feel it. So, the toner, which helps restore your faces pH balance, and moisturizing is super important. It does want you want it to do but you have to be cautious of what it will and can do to your skin!
The lovely, Clean&Clear Deep Action exfoliating scrub, is one of my favorite things to use! I use it every morning and occasionally at night. I use it in the morning because it exfoliates your face, giving you a nice soft fresh canvas for your make-up, and it cools your face- waking you up! It's not an intense cleanser, very light, very refreshing! Another bonus is, it is relatively inexpensive about $6! I have purchased this multiple times and I make sure I bring it with me on my trips away.

Obviously, another product I just love and swear by! Cetaphil products are just amazing! This daily face wash is something I use at the end of every day! It really gets all of my make-up off and makes my face feel fresh and clean but never dry. Again, I hate lotions so if I can avoid putting them on, I do! So, I will take products that are oil free and don't leave my skin feeling dry to the grave!

Another Clean&Clear product! I don't use this everyday, since it is a on the spot acne treatment. This really works the best before a pimple pops up, so when you feel one coming in, just rub this on the spot and it will disappear by the next day! I love this miracle cream!!

Easy Yummy Pull Apart Bread

The weekend before last, I went to visit my boyfriend and the first thing we did together was scroll through pinterest looking for what we are going to cook for dinner. We ended up choosing a vegetarian baked ziti, but while he was in charge of the hard work (the baked ziti), I made the "crack" bread. When we went to buy the groceries we did not pay attention to the ingredients for our pull apart bread so all we did was buy a loaf of bread (I don't remember what kind). Anyways, I mixed together what he had in his apartment, which is not a lot since he is a 20 year old college student that lives on his own. When I got home, I loved it so much I decided to recreate the deliciousness! Before you begin cooking, preheat your oven to 350° F by the time your done preparing your oven should be hot (mine was)!

What you need:
butter
salt
garlic salt
oregano
bread loaf
shredded mozzarella cheese

I first started off with a small kaiser roll, since I was making one for just me. I began cutting the roll and making these squares or diamond shapes that "pull apart" from the bread. DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE ENTIRE ROLL.

I'm sorry I don't have exact measurements for you! I really just estimated depending on the size of your bread and your preferences. Here, I took probably about 2 tablespoons of butter and melted it. Then added a sprinkle of salt, garlic salt, and oregano and mixed it all together.

After I mixed my butter, I took a spoon and poured the butter solution in the cracks of the bread. After I filled all of the cracks I poured the remainder of the butter on top of my roll.

Once you are done pouring butter, put the mozzarella cheese in all of the cracks of the bread. Since, I am a cheese lover I put a lot! Put as much as you prefer! I also put a little on top. Here comes the hardest part of this whole process, wrapping the roll in foil. In my first attempt in making this, I wrapped it up not thinking the cheese would melt to the foil. So, when you wrap it make sure the foil does not touch the top of the roll! Pop it in the oven (350° F) for 20 minutes! Sometimes, I will unwrap it at 15 minutes and let the top get crispy for the last 5 minutes of baking!

And this beauty was my finished product! This bread was really good with my broccoli and cheese soup!

My First Post

Hi! So, okay, for my first post I guess I should tell you what I am about. My name is Becca. I am a 21 year old college student. I want my blog to be my personal outlet to the world, whether I am sharing a craft, recipe, or my own thoughts. I have the obsession with reading blog and for a while now I have been research how to start one of my own. Everything I read told me to find a niche and have a good "brand" name. Those were the two hardest things to do just to start a blog! I don't think I have a niche. I just want to create, write, and have somewhere to share it all. My blog is called unicorns and girly things because 1. I LOVE unicorns (they're my favorite animal) and 2. I love and do girly things; crafts, cooking, and make-up.

Ever since I could hold a pencil, I have been crafty and always doing something creative. Even now, as busy as I am, I always have something creative on my mind. Whether it is a sketch book idea or how to go above and beyond on my next project for school.

Now, disclaimer, I CANNOT COOK. But I like to try! My boyfriend and I are long distant, so when I go visit him we always try a new recipe and try to cook dinner at least one night I am there! Which is the only time I really cook, considering I still live at home and my mom cooks every night. But lately, I think I have been gaining skill! :)

One of my daily routines is putting on make-up and I love putting it on, trying new products, and doing different things. I do want to take care of my skin, so when I don't have to put on make-up, I don't!

I cannot wait to begin blogging regularly! This excites me so much! But honestly, I don't know what I am doing so.....here I go!
